John
Hannah plays: Jonathan Carnahan, an English 'archaeologist' and
Evelyn's ne'er-do-well brother
Summary: Brendan Fraser plays Rick O'Connell, a Foreign Legion soldier who is rescued from execution by Egyptologists Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) and Jonathan (John Hannah) Carnahan, who want O'Connell to help them find Hamunaptra, the ancient City of the Dead (Evelyn for academic reasons, Jonathan financial). The threesome races against a group of Americans to find treasure and antiquities, and unwittingly wakes Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), an Egyptian priest who was mummified alive. Imhotep wants to resurrect his dead girlfriend, and plans to sacrifice Evelyn to do so. My thoughts: It's a fun little summer popcorn movie. It's not a *great* movie. It's an action movie and a *fun* movie, and I would recommend it. But if you're looking for something deep and meaningful, this isn't it. The editing and dialogue aren't great, but there's lots of action and special effects. IT IS A MOVIE FOR THE EYES, NOT FOR THE BRAIN. As long as you go into it with that mindset, you should enjoy it. Many critics, including Roger Ebert, have said that it wasn't a great movie, but they found themselves drawn into it. I agree. John Hannah is one of the best parts, so that's a plus!
